Bringing to life workplace competencies in the classroom

Simple neuroscience is the bridge to accelerated competency understanding.

There are innate competencies that don't need to be trained. Every high school student has them. Awareness enables confidence in application, from the classroom into the workplace.

Behavior preferences and innate competencies tie together:

Alignment with Natural Strengths

Certain skills or abilities come naturally to an individual, these natural traits are innate competencies and align closely with natural behavior preferences. In essence, behavior preferences act as a foundation for the competencies that individuals naturally excel at.

Effortless Mastery

Innate competencies feel natural because they require less conscious effort or learning. This occurs because the individual’s behavior preferences already support the kind of actions or thinking a competency requires. For example, a detail-oriented person is likely to excel in tasks that require organization and precision because it matches their natural tendencies.

Greater Potential for Growth

While individuals can develop competencies outside their natural behavior preferences, those that align tend to have a greater potential for growth. This is because natural behavior supports continuous improvement in areas where individuals feel intrinsically motivated.

Sustained Performance

When behaviors and their competencies align with the needs of a job, individuals are more likely to perform consistently at a high level. The person is less prone to burnout or dissatisfaction because they are working within their natural inclinations. Or, to put it another way, they are applying themselves the way their brain likes to work
